LG Optimus Vu will get a white version next week

By on 09:33

The (so far) South Korea-only LG Optimus Vu debuted in traditional black, but starting next week it will be available in white too. Both the back and the bezel around the 5" XGA display will be white.

XGA resolution is 768 x 1024, making for a 4:3 aspect ratio - quite rare for a mobile screen of this size. Anyway, the 8.5mm slim phoneblet packs LTE connectivity and a dual-core 1.5GHz processor along with niceties such as an HDMI port and a T-DMB TV tuner.
The white LG Optimus Vu will be available for SK Telecom and according to the press release is aimed at the ladies and youngster out there. There's still no info on a worldwide release of the Vu.

While the name of the next generation flagship Galaxy smartphone is often just assumed to be Galaxy S III, we are yet to hear the same being confirmed by Samsung. Until now, sort of.

Nokia Lumia 710, 800 to get internet sharing in WP 7.5 Tango

By on 09:27

The Lumia series, the hallmark Windows Phone devices by Nokia, so far were left out in the cold as regards the Wireless Hotspot functionality. Every other WP smartphone has been enjoying that since the update to Mango, but not the Lumias.
Previously, we've caught wind of rumors that the about-to-be released Nokia Lumia 610 finally has that feature.
Now user reports suggest that the Lumia 710 and 800 will also have that featured enabled once the new Tango (WP7.5 refresh) update becomes public. So far, only pre-release firmwares have been out and about via the NaviFirm application. Navifirm acquires the firmware files directly from Nokia support servers so those are the real deal.

Did HTC accidentally show us the EVO 3D successor?

By on 03:43

Official product videos are hardly on top of our list for upcoming smartphone leaks, but stranger things have happened, right? A curiously looking prototype has made an appearance in the freshly announcedHTC EVO 4G LTE promo clip, and made us wonder if we didn't accidentally (or not?) catch a glimpse of the HTC EVO 3D's possible successor.
As you can see above, the dual-camera layout of the prototype, along with the position of its dual-LED flash certainly points in this direction. Of course, this could well be a prototype only device, which will never see production.

Android 4.0.4 update causing network issues on Galaxy Nexus

By on 03:23

Looks like it is trouble in paradise for Galaxy Nexus owners again. After updating to the much awaited Android 4.0.4 update that started rolling out last week, users are now noting that the phone loses signal once it goes into sleep mode.

This happens usually when there is no application running in the background when the phone goes into sleep. The processor speed drops below a certain point and then the phone loses its network signal, meaning it won't be able to receive calls or messages until you wake the phone.

Unaudited HTC report for Q1 2012 shows big drop in revenue

By on 03:21

HTC was on the rise - in 2011, the company posted a record second quarter and an even better third quarter. Then in the final quarter of last year there was a sharp 25% drop in revenue, bringing them down to levels comparable to their Q1 2011 performance.
It still pulled off a successful year overall - revenue for 2011 was up 67% compared to 2010 - but they're not starting off this year very well. HTC released some unaudited data on their performance for the first three month of this 2012 and things are not looking great.
HTC's revenue for Q1 of 2012 was $2.29 billion, a massive 34.92% drop compared to Q1 of 2011. Operating income was $172.9 million and net income after taxes was $151.4 million.

Is this Nokia Lumia PureView? We hope not

By on 03:20

What we have for you here are two leaked slides, which allegedly show a concept design and the actual specs of the upcoming Nokia Lumia PureView. It should be the Windows Phone twin of the Symbian-based 808 PureView.

According to those slides, the Lumia PureView should pack a 4.3-inch HD screen, a dual-core 1.5GHz Krait processor, Adreno 320 graphics, a 41MP camera sensor – same as on the Nokia 808 PureView with 1080p video recording and Windows Phone Apollo ticking inside.

Android 4.0.4 OTA update for Nexus S 4G leaks

By on 23:27

Google released the Android 4.0 update for the Nexus S last year in December but the Nexus S 4G for Sprint was inexplicably left out. A couple of months ago an Android 4.0.4 ROM leaked for the device, which made people hope that the official OTA update would arrive soon but that did not happen.

Today, we have another leaked ROM for the Nexus S 4G. This one will update your phone to Android 4.0.4, bringing all the features that other Nexus S users have been enjoying for months, along with some improvements to the WiMAX reception, due to the updated baseband.
